Buy an off-the-shelf system or build your own?

We are asked this often, and the answer is not always "build your own".

When off-the-shelf works

When your process is standard. Ordinary trading, simple accounting, a typical warehouse — ready-made products exist for these and they are cheaper.

They also go live tomorrow rather than in six months.

When to build

When your process differs from your competitors and that difference is your advantage. Moving to a standard system means giving that advantage up.

Or when you already run several systems and need them connected.

The middle path

Sometimes the best option is to buy the ready system and write only the part you actually need on top. We do that too.
